The department of University Communications is charged with telling the University of Oregon's (UO) stories to a broad range of audiences and positioning the University to succeed and thrive. The department utilizes and manages a comprehensive suite of communications tools, including public relations, branding, advertising, licensing, digital media, and more for the benefit of the University. The Communications Specialist will assist the Provost's Communications Director in coordinating, organizing and executing communication projects for individual units reporting within the Office of the Provost. Essential responsibilities include project management, content writing, strategic planning, development, implementation and execution of communications plans. This position works with stakeholders across the Provost's portfolio to develop ideas for stories, and recognize, organize and plan other important communications opportunities connected to all units in the provost portfolio, which includes, but is not limited to: Undergraduate Studies, the Office of International Affairs, the Graduate School, and the Teaching Engagement Program. The position will determine how best to proactively push them internally and externally. An emphasis will be placed on writing and producing materials that are clear, concise and of top journalistic quality/integrity. This position works directly with the Provost Communications Director, the AVP of Content Strategy and other University Communications staff to ensure strategic, proactive, and cohesive messaging in support of the Provost's initiatives and priorities, to position the university to succeed and thrive. The person in this position will need to be proactive, work independently, show consistently sound judgment, and have a demonstrated ability to manage, understand, and communicate complex issues and institutional affairs to multiple audiences and through a variety of media. This includes developing positive relationships with administrative leadership and staff, faculty, students, and external stakeholders. The position may occasionally require working in the evening or on weekends. This position reports directly to the Provost's Communications Director. Salary is commensurate with experience and will range from $48,000 to $53,000 per year. The university offers an excellent package of employee benefits.
