Job Description
The real estate beat is the essence of top-level reporting. It
requires building - and working - strong source networks to
dig out deals before the competition and explaining not just the
dollar value, but the broad impact, of new projects, new employers
and new players.

hard work of unearthing news and intrigued by the challenge of
putting together the pieces of news to present the larger picture
of the forces shaping our community.
? Assume and broaden a network of expert sources to break
stories long before developers break ground on a project.
? Report exclusive stories quickly, accurately, fairly and
completely for readers online, in print and via social media.
? Write profiles, features and deep-dive stories to complement
breaking-news coverage.
? Work with editors and colleagues to tell stories in words,
visuals, graphics and video.
? Take over our Crane Watch feature, which plots the area's largest
development on an interactive map.
? An insatiable curiosity and desire to break news.
? Demonstrated ability to build and use a strong source
? Ability to write for various media, ranging from tweets to online
stories to long-form projects.
? Ability to thrive as part of a strong team.
? Confidence to participate in, and lead, public discussions of
real estate and development issues.
Three to five years of journalism experience, with specific
knowledge of business issues and political processes a plus
College degree recommended, but we're really looking for
evidence of intelligence, integrity and communications skills.
