Description    

Ad Age seeks a Director of Video with exceptional production and organizational skills to work with our talented newsroom team to plan, shoot and produce high-impact editorial video content that will tell stories in interesting, new and unique ways. This person will report to the Creative Director of the newly-organized, omni-platform Ad Age Creative Services Studio which supports the editorial, marketing, product and business teams’ creative needs. The role will collaborate closely with and work under the leadership of Ad Age’s editor.

The successful Video Director must first and foremost lead the creation of high-quality videos for AdAge.com and Ad Age social channels. This role will continue to evolve as Ad Age explores video approaches in response to the changing media environment, so strategically minded idea-generation and experimentation is necessary as editors and reporters seek to broaden our video offerings. Additionally, overseeing day-to-day operations of this two-person team working on multiple projects with tight deadlines that stack up will fall to the director. Finally, the candidate must have a strong background in managing multimedia production, including a expertise in copyright and fair use rules, reporting, producing/booking talent and visual craft, including lighting and composing shots.

With this willingness to adapt and flex, as well as a strong reel of previous work and track record of collaborative leadership, the successful candidate will join our Creative Services division in New York. No relocation assistance is available.
 
Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic thinking of our video programming, aligning with editors, creative director, marketing lead and business colleagues to define our brand in video content
  • Maintain current familiarity with the Ad Age competitive landscape for video
  • Assign, report, produce and/or execute various original videos for Ad Age, in collaboration with the editorial or business teams and independently as needed
  • Develop video series ideas and write content pitches and plans for our editorial and brand-partner content
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and work of the video producer
  • Attend, direct and produce shoots as necessary, travelling overnight as needed
  • Manage and further develop video content review workflows
  • Prepare on-screen graphics, interstitial and bumper title cards
  • Develop and manage workflow to check all OSG for accuracy with various stakeholders
  • Render final edits, including color grading, sound leveling, and other final polish measures as needed
  • Negotiate and process freelance contracts and payments for Ad Age video content production
  • Partner with creative director, general manager of marketing and editor to maintain video budgets
  • Traffic-manage projects for internal and external clients
  • Work on various other video projects as requested by the creative director, editor or general manager of marketing and brand
  • Other responsibilities as needed 

Requirements/Basic Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience producing video in a professional broadcast or publishing environment
  • 5 years of experience producing shoots and booking talent/support
  • 1 year of management experience
  • Excellent video editing skills, including expert Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborative project management and execution skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (primarily Word and Excel)
  • Excellent visual storytelling, visual craft (lighting, composition) and motion-picture editing skills as demonstrated in a reel of work visible via URL
  • Basic motion-graphics experience
  • BFA in film/video, media production or equivalent
  • Ability to work onsite in midtown Manhattan office
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Online / digital portfolio reflecting previous work 

Preferences

  • Editorial content management software experience
  • Basic HTML and CSS familiarity
  • Adobe Illustrator and other Creative Cloud application expertise a plus
  • Advertising and/or marketing experience a plus
  • Previous business media experience a plus
  • Deadline-driven broadcast, weekly or daily publishing experience strongly preferred
