Senior Group Project Manager

Job Summary:

The Senior Group Project Manager will have holistic visibility across larger program initiatives to ensure cross brand dependencies are accounted for, as well as to ensure consistency across the portfolio of work. They will work closely with the account team in overseeing a comprehensive operations plan and portfolio of integrated projects.  Oversight will include staffing plans and statement of work development, resource management, cost management, quality/risk management, change management, workflow/process improvements and PMO mentorship/training.

Senior Group Project Managers are McCann’s most experienced day-to-day managers of integrated work. They have proven end-to-end experience of delivering complex projects working directly with subject matter experts. They play an oversight role on large programs, but are also the sole assigned PM on complex, sensitive or high-profile work.

The Senior Group Project Manager is responsible for managing initiatives through all project phases, and help drive successful outputs through initial discovery, project definition, execution, reviews and approval cycles, and delivery/deployment of finished work. They will need to be able to draw on experience across all delivery channels, from high end interactive, print, and emerging integrated media platforms.

This role must understand all facets of the production/project management lifecycle across video, print and digital (including everything from banners & social to large scale website projects), the role of each McCann’s specialists, processes and tools required to deliver quality work throughout the team. In order to successfully execute the role, the individual must also be able to look across the project and portfolio, assign risk, generate solutions and proactively plan for risk-mitigation activities.

Senior Group Project Manager Responsibilities:

  • Defines delivery strategies for assigned project and pitch work (organic or otherwise) using knowledge of PM best practices, experience of PM methodologies and the specific needs of clients and projects
  • Reviews brand timelines, estimates and scopes across the book of business to ensure cross brand and portfolio consistency
  • Identifies resource needs on assigned projects, utilizing an accurate understanding of the specialisms required to deliver strong strategic, creative and digital work
  • Is a solutions focused leader who can encourage and justify best practice and can ensure process and project controls are followed, and establishes protocols for when exceptions are warranted
  • Reviews brand timelines, estimates and scopes to ensure cross brand and portfolio consistency
  • Co-ordinate workload and priorities with PMs & PCs assigned to the brand within the Program Manager’s portfolio
  • Ensures the identification of risk and mitigation planning for portfolio projects as well as all assigned projects
  • Reports on project progress, risks and issues to senior management
  • Ensures that roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and communicated for all identified stakeholders and resources on both a project and program level
  • Identifies resource needs on assigned projects, utilizing an accurate understanding of the specialisms required to deliver strong strategic, creative, social and digital work
  • Retrieves and documents scope detail in robust and effective SOWs and reviews scopes produced by more junior members of the Project Management Team

Digital Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Plans, estimates and controls cost ensuring accurate tracking of spend, quality of work, and ensures team adherence to established timelines
  • Responsible for the creation and daily maintenance of detailed project plans for assigned project work within Work front for all digital projects inclusive of associated resources and estimates
  • Provides project reports and status reports ensuring regular communication with the client, internal teams and PMO
  • Ensures all project meetings remain on point with clear agendas and actions which are followed up and tracked
  • Runs bi-monthly finance meetings with PM & PC
  • Tracks project level spend, profitability and status
  • Support the PM/PC team in the creation of detailed timelines, digital projects and tracking project financials
  • Demonstrates the use and knowledge of technology, processes, tools and methodologies in the design and delivery of solutions
  • Manages 3rd party vendor relationships and client IT, collaborating on timelines and identifying challenges and risks to keep on schedule

Management Responsibilities:

  • Manages 1-2 direct reports; nurture and guide their career development
  • Acts as consultant and mentor to the PM’s while assisting on complex digital deliverables
  • Inspires and facilitates the professional development of direct reports to help them progress in their careers, while tracking their performance against their job description and goals
  • Ensures that all direct reports (and team members) have clear objective and regular weekly check-in meetings
  • Is a point of escalation for all project management resources and stakeholders across program
  • Encourages positive thinking and considers client and business needs in decision making
  • Builds and encourages strong relationships with specialist and senior leads
  • Manages weekly PM & PC team meetings (specific to brand) to discuss project details – including risk management, task prioritization and scope changes
  • Supports the PC in recommendations for the most efficient way to create timelines, circulate a job and manage team dynamics
  • Continually helps to up-level the PMs and PCs with their overall skills & agency process

Required Experience:  

  • 8-10 years’ experience of working in a digital / creative / communications / ad agency on large integrated accounts, Healthcare experience preferred
  • 3-5 years of managerial experience in Operations or Project Management.
  • Understands and operates within established Agency procedures
  • Ability to quickly grasp and understand complexity, problems and concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of software tools for the management of each of the following; task management, timeline management, test management, collaboration, budgeting, word processing, presentation delivery
  • Forward-thinking conflict resolution skills with a focus on team building and leadership by example
  • Strong time management skills; ability to juggle priorities
  • Can-do positive attitude and a roll-up-your sleeves approach
  • Consumer Device experience a plus
